He learned in school as did the majority of hungarian boys. In the last 3 decades before the war, even the Kids of the more chasidic families were working for a diploma. In order to get their Rabunes legaly certified, as the Munkacher Ruv (Minchas Eluzer)learned secular studies to earn a diploma., and the Atzie Chaim hired a teacher for his kids to teach them secular studies....
It gave them more power in their city if the were legal.
